Certified installers depend on your references, and so fair and relatively standardized compensation for a good pond is typical, while they eschew gouging.

I would include more questions for the consumer to ask their potential contractor, such as:
1. How much experience do they have ?
2. Are they a certified contractor ?
3. Do they have their own pond at home ?
4. Business references
5. Can I view your display ponds?
These top 5 suggestions should answer the main concerns. The following 5 additional points will give "you" the consumer, an idea of what more to ask for.
6. Do you offer seasonal maintenance ? ...and what all does it include ?
7. Does your company offer any educational seminars ? (Plants,fish, etc)
8. Where can I purchase supplies ? (Fish food, bacteria, fertilizer tabs, etc)
9. Does your company participate in any annual pond tour ?
10. Is there a local pond club (NAWGS) chapter where I can network with other hobbyist ?
If your contractor can meet these top 10 criteria, you are in for a great pond experience. There are many Pond Installers out there, some are good, some are "not so good"
